COMPUBOX:MANNY PACQUIAO LANDS JUST 81 PUNCHES AGAINST MAYWEATHER.

LAS VEGAS — In this case, the numbers don't lie.
Floyd Mayweather improved to 48-0 on Saturday night with a unanimous decision victory over Manny Pacquiao, with the judges agreeing on 10 of the 12 rounds.
They were seeing the same thing: Mayweather wasn't getting hit by one of the highest volume punchers in boxing. Partially because Pacquiao wasn't throwing many actual punches.
Mayweather landed 148 of 435 (34 percent) punches in the fight, while Pacquiao connected on just 19 percent (81 of 429) of his punches against Mayweather. Pacquiao averaged only six punches landed per round, and connected on just 18 jabs in the entire fight.
Pacquiao's drop in punch output is in line with a recent trend. In wins over Brandon Rios, Timothy Bradley and Chris Algieri, Pacquiao averaged 674 punches per 36 minutes. In his previous 10 fights, he had averaged 860.7 punches per 36 minutes. On Saturday, the dropoff was even more severe.
Marcos Maidana had more success landing punches against Mayweather than Pacquiao. In both of their 2014 fights, Maidana landed 22 percent of his shots.

After the fight, Pacquiao disclosed that he had been battling through a recurring right shoulder injury and it made him reluctant to use his jab. By contrast, Mayweather threw 267 jabs in the fight and used it as a weapon to keep Pacquiao at bay, even though he only landed 25 percent of them.
For Mayweather, this was the first time in five fights he's landed fewer than 50 percent of his power punches. He was 81 of 168 (48 percent).
